The European Parliament demanded that Latvia, Lithuania, and a number of other states ratify the Istanbul Convention prohibiting “domestic violence”…

The European Parliament (EP) called on the European Council to ratify the Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention). This was reported by the representative of the European Parliament Jānis Krastiņš, reported “Baltic News“.

The European Parliament calls on Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovakia, and Great Britain, which have not yet ratified the convention, to do so as soon as possible. 500 deputies voted in favour of the resolution, 91 opposed, and 50 abstained.

Members of the European Parliament call on the Commission to recognize combating gender-based violence as a priority in the next European Gender Equality Strategy.

Latvia believes that many laws already prohibit violence, and the convention contains controversial paragraphs, such as “the right to choose social gender”. However, Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner Nils Muižnieks called on Latvia to ratify the convention as soon as possible.

According to the European Institute index, 38.6% of Latvian women have experienced physical or sexual violence since the age of 15. These figures are higher than the EU average (33%). In 2018, the State Police reported that an average of 115 women suffer from domestic violence every day in Latvia.

Emotional abuse in Latvia has been reported by 895 children and teenagers over the past 410 months, 375 children – physical abuse, 67 children – sexual abuse, and 78 children – online and phone harassment.

Statistics show that 24% of children and adolescents suffer emotional violence in educational institutions and 35% from parental violence.

Physical violence is most common among parents – 43% – and peers – 19%. Sexual violence against children was committed by parents in 27% and among peers – in 4% of cases. 6% of all cases of violence against children and adolescents involve humiliation on the Internet or by telephone.

In a telephone interview with the “Russian People’s Line”, the Director of the Institute of European Studies, Coordinator of the Union of Russian Communities of Europe for Latvia, and Doctor of Economic Sciences Aleksandr Vladimirovich Gaponenko discusses whether the Istanbul Convention will be adopted in Latvia:

“The West is pursuing a line to reduce the Earth’s population in favour of the “‘golden billion’ by using legal and propaganda tools. In particular, the Istanbul Convention is one such instrument. In my opinion, when it is adopted, the institution of the family is destroyed. The State interferes in internal affairs when it begins to regulate relations between women, men, and children by police forces. Of course, domestic violence is unacceptable. Criminal law is therefore in force in all countries. The Istanbul Declaration sets out purely police measures aimed at destroying the family and eventually reducing the birth rate.

Three years ago Latvia tried to adopt the Istanbul Convention, but conservative deputies from the ruling coalition, supported by the opposition, blocked the decision. The Latvian Government, which is globalist and pro-West, again raises the issue of the adoption of the Istanbul Convention in the hope of collecting the necessary number of votes. I believe that under the current circumstances the government of Latvia will be able to adopt this sinister document.

The situation in Russia in the light of the draft law on domestic violence is strange for me, because the Russian leadership has repeatedly declared an increase in the population, taking additional measures to support families with children. And so far, the state has not abandoned the strategic line to increase fertility. And now there is an ideological attack on Russia, which is not always understood by the ruling elites. Under the pretext of protecting people, a legal model of family destruction is imposed.”
