Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria must be assured in accordance with the UN Resolution No. 2254, adding that no action on the ground, carried out by foreign powers, should be made without prior approval from the Syrian authorities.
The statement came amid the latest US aggression that resulted in downing of a Syrian military jet that was raiding ISIS positions in Raqqah province.
During a joint press conference, held in Beijing with the remaining Foreign Ministers of BRICS on Monday, Lavrov confirmed Russia works strictly and only in coordination with Syrian authorities and called on other powers to follow the same route.

“We call upon our experts and partners to avoid the unilateral action and to coordinate with the Syrian Government,” Lavrov was heard saying, adding that a joint international cooperation is needed in order to fully defeat the threat of terrorism.
He also assured that all member states of BRICS are trying to find a solution to end the crisis in Syria, noting  the upcoming Astana meeting on settlement of Syrian crisis will be held in cooperation with Staffan de Mistura, UN’s special envoy for Syria.
In a joint statement, all foreign ministers of BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) stressed the need for a joint collaboration on combating terrorism as the only effective way of defeating terrorism, done in accordance with the international law.
