BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:40 P.M.) – Amid their ongoing counter-offensive against the Syrian Arab army in southeastern Idlib province, Islamist militias have brought serious firepower to bear.

Over the last several days, two powerful Al-Qaeda-linked jihadist groups – Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly called Jabhat al-Nusra) and the Turkistan Islamic Party – which are currently leading rebel factions against the Syrian Army in Idlib’s southeastern countryside released a series battlefield pictures via their respective media centers.

The photos (below) show the two groups shelling Syrian Army positions in southeast Idlib with a range of heavy and medium fire support weapons including tanks, howitzers, rockets, recoilless rifles, siege mortars, rapid-fire autocannons and even shoulder-fired rocket launchers.

Although an awesome display of strength at face value, the equipment being shown off likely represents the last heavy weapons available in the combined arsenal of rebel groups throughout northwest Syria after major heavy equipment losses during 2016 and 2017.
