PANAMA CITY, Panama – The United States Ambassador to Panama, John D. Feeley, announced his resignation Thursday stating the reason that he cannot serve under president Donald Trump.
“As a junior foreign service officer, I signed an oath to serve faithfully the president and his administration in an apolitical fashion, even when I might not agree with certain policies. My instructors made clear that if I believed I could not do that, I would be honor bound to resign. That time has come,” Feeley said.
Although he never cited what the policies he disagreed with were, his resignation will come into action on March 9.
He then went onto thank the people of Panama for the positive experience he has had as ambassador to the country.
